Excursion near Tiger Den Ranthambore

Places to see in the Park
1. Ranthambore Fort
The most fascinating and most popular excursion taken from the national park is to the Ranthambore Fort. This fort was built by the Chauhans in the 10th century. The fort is located at a very strategic position between north and central India and hence it was always coveted by many rulers. This fort is famous for the 'Johar' (suicide by immolation to escape humilitaion) by Rajput women in 1301AD during the siege by Ala-ud-din Khilji. The temples and tanks add to the beauty of the fort. The seven gates and massive curtain walls, crowning a fall-topped hill presents a majestic view.

2. Bakaula - Sea running streams.

3. Kachida - Spot a concentration of Spotted Deer.

4. Rajbagh Lake - Carpeted with Lotus flowers and filled with Lotus eaters.

5. Phutakot - Colorado of this area.

6. Highest Point - Gives a virtual 'aerial' view of the Park.

7. Semli & Berda - Breathtaking landscapes that seem to stretch till infinity.

8. Khemsa Kund - An ancient water tank.

9. Kukraj Ghati - See the grand view of the National Park from the peak of Kukraj.

10. Lahpur Valley - Large flat grassland very good for viewing Deer, Antipole and Tigers.

11. Sultanpur ki Kui - One of the most scenic drives in the Park.

Places to see around the Park
1. GILAI SAGAR and MANSAROVAR - GILAI SAGAR and MANSAROVAR are two major water bodies outside the reserve that attract thousands of migratory birds during the winter. Ideal for bird watchers. .

2. Sawai Madhopur Town - Famous for folk arts.

3. Fort of Khandar - The fort of KHANDAR is on the far side of the reserve and well worth a visit. These forts command stunning views of the area. It is also intersting to visit the resettled complexes of Kailashpuri and Gopalpura if you are interested in the story of how communties left the park to give way to the tigers thereby allowing them to flourish.

4. Amaraeshwar Mahadeo Temple - Nestled in the high hills.

5. Jogi Mahal, Forest Rest House - Adjacent to India's largest Banyan Tree.

Guest Comments - Tiger Den Ranthambore
Top We have enjoyed our stay at the Tiger's Den and can certainly recommend the food. The hotel is in it's early days, but it has great potential. Good luck with the venture. The staff have all been extremely helpful and friendly.

Thank you for a most enjoyable stay, and for taking care of all our needs. We felt very well taken care of here. The food and accommodation was excellent, and the staff did a very fine job. We will always remember our stay here, and the excellent park you have here.

A very relaxing end to a week of touring. Peaceful location next to a dramatic landscape. Safaris were excellent, lots of wildlife especially sighting of female Tiger. Fantastic experience.
Great food and service, very friendly hosts. Comfortable accommodation. We will certainly recommend it to our friends and return ourselves. We'll fly in by helicopter next time. Many thanks.

We come to Tiger's Den in Ranthambhore to spent some days for seeing Tigers and other animals. We had a nice stay. The resort was excellent and the staff was friendly and helpful. We saw a lot of Tigers and perhaps we have had good shots. I am sure we will come back in a few years, and we will visit the park and this resort again. Thank you very much for everything.
- Mr Scharer
