Corbett National Park is where Bhabhar forests, Riverine forests, Siwalik foothills and the Terai floodplains all intertwine in a biodiversity-rich area the growing Himalayan Mountains which transport their silt and rock down river fed by the Himalayan rivers.

It is the geological culmination of such richness that has nurtured the biodiversity we see here today. The dominant trees of the area are the towering and gregarious “Sal” (Shorea robusta) which fill the landscape and provide the feeling of being in Tiger Country. A rare sight of gigantic grasslands during a tiger safari in Corbett, is a magical sight indeed, where herds of Elephants, Tigers, Leopards, and an array of other fauna and flora, call their home.

Day 1 : New Delhi – Corbett (by surface, 275 kms/5 hrs)

After an early breakfast, drive to Corbett National Park (275 kms/ 5-hour drive). On arrival, check into the forest lodge.

The Forest Rest House is unique to Corbett National Park. It is only in Corbett that you get an opportunity to stay inside the national park. The complex is located on the banks of Ramganga river and overlooks the foothills of Himalayas. Post lunch proceed for an afternoon safari in the most scenic national park of India. Only vegetarian food is served here. Smoking and alcohol is not permitted here.

Return from the safari at sunset. Dinner and overnight at Dhikala Forest Lodge.

Begin your morning safari at sunrise. Corbett has aptly been described as the land of the Roar, Trumpet and Song. It represents a scene of remarkable beauty. Corbett has had the proud distinction of being the chosen venue for the inauguration of Project Tiger in India. The rich biodiversity of the Reserve is partly attributed to the variety of habitat found here. Due to the location of the Reserve in the foothills of the central Himalayas, both Himalayan and peninsular flora and fauna is found in the Reserve.

India’s first and finest park is spread over 520 sq. kms. Established initially as Hailey National Park on August 8, 1936, in honor of Sir Malcolm Hailey, then governor of the United Provinces, the name was changed to Ramganga National Park in 1952 and subsequently to Corbett National Park in honor and memory of the late Jim Corbett, the legendary hunter, naturalist-turned-author and photographer, who had helped in setting up the park and in the demarcation of its boundaries.

Morning Jeep safari to Dhikala zone. Post breakfast, checkout from the lodge and drive towards the exit gate of Corbett. Do not pack your camera equipment, you get yet another opportunity to witness wildlife on your way out. A three night does indeed seem far too little in this paradise. Once out of the park, drive to New Delhi, about 5-hour drive, 275 kms. Transfer to your hotel or to airport for an onward journey.
