The Karzok Monastery belongs to the Yellow Sect. Tsomoriri, or “Mountain Lake,” is nestled in the elevated Rupshu Valley, surrounded by 6000-meter peaks that fully encircle the lake. This valley is home to the scattered nomadic shepherd community of “Changpas,” who also engage in trade and caravan work in Ladakh, Lahaul, and Spiti.

The area is teeming with wildlife, including the “Kyang” (wild ass), red fox, and the endangered snow leopard.
